He’s Given This Far Too Much Thought.

There are some pastors who carry on against all sorts of sins of the world with equal attention.  Lying, cheating, stealing, the evils of drink, gambling, and immoral sexual activity.  It’s all the same, and it’s all going to put you on the path to eternal damnation unless you embrace God, change your ways, and live a life of purity.

Then there are people like Paul Cameron:  so pathologically obsessed with homosexual sex that the only conclusion you can make is that he is one himself.  Apparently on the Voice of Christian Youth’s radio show “Crosstalk”, he took the opportunity to voice some ideas about exactly what the long term goals of the homosexual agenda really are:

Mark my words clearly; the long term goal of the homosexual movement is to get every little boy to grab his ankles and every little girl to give it a try. They will not rest until every one of our children at least gets to try, has the opportunity and maybe is forced to at least once experience homosexual acts. There is no retreating from that, they made it very clear earlier on—now they don’t take about it—but that’s what they want, they will not be happy until they get it, marriage is just a step along the way.

Here’s the audio, for those who really feel like suffering:

Actually, one of two possibilities come to mind: first, he’s a closeted homosexual who was born and raised in such an oppressive household that the only thing he could do in order to reconcile his faith with his sexuality was to suppress it and hate himself every day for simply being what he is. The other possibility is – from the wording of his tirade – that he might have been molested at an early age and ended up confusing pedophilia with homosexuality as a result.

If either one of these is true, then I could easily manage some sympathy for him, since he’d be as much of a victim in this as everyone else. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t excuse the fact that he’s using what influence and power he has at his disposal to accuse the entire homosexual population of wanting to molest children, or at least get them to try it on their own. Standard paranoid ranting, but it’s sort of what you’ve come to expect from the Christian Right these days.

You can almost taste the rainbow.

And just for good measure, he basically came out as a racist, too.  That shocks me.  Really.

Cameron later said he “partially agreed” with a caller who said, “they gave blacks equal rights and that was a bad path and now look where we are, if I don’t feel like I want to hire a black man for my business I’m in all sorts of trouble and now it’s going to be some homo who is gonna have to get a job because I can’t do nothing about it.”

Because treating people as if they were all deserving of the same rights as you, no matter how icky you might think they are, is the way America works.  I, for one, have to accept the fact that someone as mentally deranged and delusional as Cameron is allowed the same rights as myself, even if he’s calling for criminalizing people who are harming no one.  I have to accept this as part of living in this country, but I do take issue with the fact that no one’s sat him down, given him a hug, and started a long, multi-year counseling session to try to unravel all of the anger and malevolence he’s peddling under the guise of “Christian mercy” to turn him into a somewhat normal person.

Or at least one who swaps out his bible for some knitting needles and keeps to himself.  I don’t as for much.

I shouldn’t have listened to the audio. But you might be on to something about him being a closeted homosexual. My gaydar is 90% effective and I was getting Ted Haggard readings from his voice.
